SCHOOL RENOVATION

The programs of Loreto Vietnam aim to provide equitable access to quality education for disadvantaged children and communities in Vietnam. We work through consultation and the establishment of sustainable partnerships with local communities.

One of the most immediate needs in rural areas is to provide safe and accessible learning spaces in schools and kindergartens. Most of our project schools are in a badly damaged condition, severely affected by both age and environmental effects, including the impact of climate change within the Mekong Delta region particularly. Many of these school sites have subsequently deteriorated and are often unsafe for students and teachers.

By renovating these educational settings, in addition to promoting safety, we are also aiming for the longer-term goal of improving school retention of primary students and completion rates for secondary schooling. The overall positive impact on the educational outcomes of these students will improve the economic and social contexts for them, their families and communities.

Since 1997, Loreto Vietnam has helped rebuild and renovate 26 schools and kindergartens.
